About BRAG
Welcome to the Broads Reform Action Group (BRAG), a passionate and dedicated non-profit organization focused on ensuring transparent and accountable governance for the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads. Established on 8th February 2023, BRAG is committed to advocating for comprehensive reform of the Broads Authority (BA) to reflect the interests and needs of all stakeholders.
Our Mission
At BRAG, our mission is clear: to voice the opinions and concerns of the community regarding the management of the BA and to campaign tirelessly for reforms that align with the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads Act 1988 (as amended). We believe in a governance structure that is accountable, democratic, and transparent, ensuring the Broads are managed in a way that benefits everyone.
Objectives
Our key objectives include:
- Governance Reform: Advocate for a governance structure where the Chief Executive is fully answerable to the Board and operates within clearly defined limits.
- Stakeholder Representation: Ensure fair and proportionate representation of navigation and commercial interests within the BA.
- Community Engagement: Raise awareness among local residents and the broader community about the governance of the Broads and enlist their support for our campaign.
- Transparency: Promote clear and accessible public accounts to facilitate easy monitoring of compliance with legal requirements.
- Election and Term Limits: Push for the election of Members from the navigation community and establish a maximum term of office for the Chief Executive.
Our Team
BRAG is led by a dedicated team of volunteers who bring a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to our cause. Our core committee includes:
- Chair: Colin Chettleburgh
- Vice Chair: Karen Morris
- Committee Members: Chris Edmondson, Chris Wibberley, Jamie Campbell, Mike Morris, and Stuart Ogden
Together, we work tirelessly to advocate for the necessary reforms and to ensure the voices of all stakeholders are heard.
Our Approach
We employ a multi-faceted approach to achieve our objectives, including:
- Advocacy and Campaigns: Engaging with local residents, businesses, and stakeholders to build broad-based support for our mission.
- Public Awareness: Conducting outreach and educational campaigns to inform the community about the issues at hand and how they can get involved.
